2-Man Best Ball SUPERBOWL Sunday, 2/3
SUPER BOWL SUNDAY, February 3rd
2-man best ball event (9 holes)
Check in @ 7:30
Tee off @ 8:00
Walking Price: $22
Riding Price: $30
Don't worry, sports fans... you WILL BE HOME IN TIME FOR THE SUPER BOWL!!!
You'll make the game, the pre-game and possibly even the pre-pre-pre-pre-game.
January is in the books, and there was no change to the money list after last week's impressive NO-SHOW scenario. Only two (2!!!) club members showed up ON TIME and ready to play. Apparently Ken Baum shot twice his age... and Karyn shot Jim Jones' age.... so..........
..........Ken shot Karyn.
We had a pretty good start to this year... apart from the rainy season, there was enough golf for most of us... and it should be clearing up soon.
The game will be 2-player teams, best ball, with full-handicap for each partner. Teams can be picked, but if you don't have a selected partner, we can either randomly draw or pick teams when you arrive (at 7:30, hopefully). 1/2 handicap for skins - possibly another $5-$15 for the Super Bowl Skins!!!

Camarillo Springs Tournament JAN 20
What a day we had today... everybody that wasn't in attendance missed out on a "doozy". We had nine players... since we had a NO-SHOW... and played in two groups. When I arrived at the course this morning, everything was covered in frost. It was a slow round, but many dirty jokes kept the momentum going. Scott Atkins reported some serious pinky pain and had to withdraw on the 16th hole. Eddie Cantano was disqualified after picking up his ball and eating it on the front nine.
Lots of fun was had by all involved (except maybe Scott's fingering finger) and Ken Baum SANDBAGGED his way to very nearly shooting the low gross score (by one stroke!!!).
Congratulations to A Flight Champion CHRIS HARMAN (45.00)

SGC's help your game program
Hello everyone Pres. JJ here,
Larry Travis got me thinking about this one.....
I have a medicus swing trainer and I also bought 4 cd disks of lessons by the pro's:
Dave Stockton's - Inside the scoring zone
Hale Irwin's - Faults and cures
Peter Jacobson's - Bunker play
Tom Lehman's - Driving distance and accuracy
I also have on vhs tape driving distance and accuracy
I am going to donate my 5 year collection of Golf digest and if Chris A. lets me we will have them at the club hse. at Saticoy for members to CHECK OUT......
The medicus swing trainer and a 2 ball putter, as well as a Scotty Cameron putter if any member wants to check those out as well.....oh I also have a stiff shaft Titleist 975-D 8.5 driver.
List anything you would let someone borrow in the comments section here and I will make a list
I think a week check out period is fair uh?

Saticoy Regional's good points.....
The President's state of the union address....... First I would like to apologize for our slight late schedule and slight change of venue.
I was a member of Saticoy Regional Mens Club,11 years ago. Back when Al Urias, Dick Shuab,
and many other old timers who have now passed away were in the mens club.
It was a small but friendly club that played for $ (small amounts). Because they had learned, not everyone could afford big $, or just didn't want to. So many of them had side bets, not unlike the games/bets that I see today between Chaidez and Puga, or Miller and Ferrar, or Perez and Milleville. Over the years some things have changed and some things haven't.
One change has been the addition of women in the club, another has been the frequency, or infrequency of play and that has been largly based upon member #'s.
Last years board members changed things, they changed the name of the club to Saticoy Golf Club, and started the Seabee base play in the rotation. They also started the points list or fed ex cup list.(A list that is tallied thru the year and at the years end a nice gift/prize is awarded).
All these are fine changes, and at some point in time things are going to change.
When I first started thinking about what was going to be in store for this years SGC club,
WE/the Club were moving through a trepeduious time, unfortunatly we had a # of people leaving this club. All the reasons don't need to be rehashed , however, I had to make some plans for the club... I began by asking what are the strengths of Saticoy?
1. It is very conveinant 2. It is inexpensive 3. It is a nine hole course 4. It has a driving range and at least 2 regular golf instructors
So I decided to use those strengths to the advancement of the club, SGC. Not everyone can play on Sunday( I heard that from many perspective members) So Saturdays were an obvious solution. "I don't always have the time for 18 holes", hence 9 hole games.....
Hey after the 1 week we didn't know whether we were going to have more than 6 regular players on any given week anyways!......So to clear the air so to speak, 1-week is Sunday 9 hole team/get together/mix it up type game...2-week is Saturday 9 hole (same atmosphere game)
To give Saturday players a taste of the same game... 3-week Sunday Tournament (holy tournament day! can't change that) 4-week 18 holes Saturday.... cmon see the genius? Also any Month we have an extra week as in March, August, Nov. We have a "MO-MONEY" tournament, its all about the side bets(on Sunday).......So if that don't spread the love around
I'll just start throwing money! sorry can't do that...What I did though is broker a deal for SGC members to save 3$ every time you play in the Wed. Nt. SCRAMBLES so, over the course of the summer if you are a frequent player you will save enough for your SGC membership anyway....!!!!! I also have put together a 5$ group lesson in March for SGC club members
a 1 hr. clinic by Mr. Quezada (short game) and Mr. Milleville (long game) For 5 bucks I think that is a nice bonus for SGC members. We have a calling tree established so people here from people about the events in our club. I might add we also have a great group of guys on the board this year and each one of them seems amiciable to work with, and ready and willing to help, well except that Chris guy he is a little rough around the edges....I hope that helps you all to see where this year is heading...... Thanks for reading this book Jimmy Jones

Tournament Update for Sunday 1/20/08
I received an update on our upcoming Tournament this Sunday from our Tournament
Director Scott Atkins. He said it looks good for Camarillo Springs (but not confirmed yet)
Starting tee times will be 8:34 am and our T.D. said he is booking 4 tee times so they might go fast... Also those members who have filled out and turned in member forms but have not yet
got your 43$ payment in, when I get the bill from the PLGA in about a week, your bill will be due. I have been nice enough to send in your membership applications without your checks..
I trust I won't have to send my hencemen after you! Those who have outstanding bills are inelligable for the 300$ hole in one, until their bill is paid. So get in the $ and start collecting points. Remember we have, just like the PGA (has FED EX points) we have our own through the year points, with the overall winner at the end of the year receiving a nice gift.....

2008 1st Club Event
The first event of the year was a lot of fun, and due to several different factors, we had attendance of 18000% higher than the other area clubs.
Sunday Scramble:
1st Place (50.00 total)
Jim Jones
Chris Harman
Hector Betancourt
2nd Place (25.00 total)
John Milleville
Pedro Puga
Ken Baum
Greenies (15.00 each)
#5 Matt King
#6 Jim Jones
#8 Hector Betancourt
The scramble found 5 teams of three in a race to avoid the rain. After nine holes were completed, 4 of those teams were tied at 32 strokes... (-2). We had a sudden death elimination putting contest for first place. It took three rounds to decide the winner... and the team that prevailed was the only one that took no 3-putts throughout the playoff.
Our first event was a real success. A lot of fun was had despite the cold rain and we had a better turnout than we originally expected.
We hope to see more of you next week.
Points list is updated.

Saticoy's big break Champion is Brett Silvernail
First of all, I would like to say thanks to Chris and Aaron at Saticoy Regional Golf Course. Not only did they spend their time and give away 4 $50 range cards and 4 rounds of golf, they set up the final Big Break Championship.
Thanks to John Milleville for donating a half-hour free lesson, and thanks to Jim Jones at Pro-Line Electric for donating a dimmer switch.
On to the winners. . . .
After 9 holes of play, Perez was in the lead with a score of 28.
John Milleville had 30, Brett Silvernail had 30, Jimmy Jones had 33, Hector Betancourt had 34, and Mike Westner had 35.
Then we went into the clubhouse room and took a test on the rules of golf. Any wrong answer would be one stroke added to your score. The results were: Brett missed 0, Jimmy missed 1, John and Al missed 4, Hector missed 5, Mike missed 6.
Leaving the winner to be Brett Silvernail, who won a $100 gift certificate to the Pro shop, a 4-some of golf, and an installed designer dimmer.
2nd place went to Al Perez, who received $50.
3rd place was a tie between John Milleville and Jimmy Jones, they each won $17.50
5th place was Hector Betancourt, who won $10
6th place was Mike Westner, who won $5
The 4 weekly challenge winners (Al, Brett, John and Jim) will not be eligible for the next Big Break Challenge
Thanks again,
JJ

2008 IS HERE
A whole new year is upon us.
The Men's Club has undergone some interesting changes that will affect all remaining members. Obviously, you will have noted some changes to the website. I will be modifying it more as the year rolls on, but for now, since the year is only about 11 hours old... I'll take some personal time off from my new job.
This will be a good year... I promise.
