We'll be having an event in the next 3 weeks to finish out the points list for the 3rd period. It looks like it will be Mike Wesner... next year's president... unless somebody does something spectacular.

We will be discussing the fate of the club and/or clubs if a merger will or might happen for next year. So, we're entertaining ideas for the last event, the merger... and memberships are due soon.

Congrats to Andy Bennett for qualifing in the Champion of Champions Tournament last weekend. He shot a 75 and a 76 at the qualifing courses in L.A.
He is 1 of 12 in the A- flight remaining, he will be playing His final round at Brookside G.C. in Pasadena.
Good Luck Andy and represent !!!!
P.S. if things go tough don't yell out any cuss words and no club throwing...OK...

Good work, Mike!!!

It would be nice to see more members playing, but all things considered it was a good time. The course conditions weren't too brutal, the weather was good, and there was no whining. Alright, there was a little whining.

Eddie got us started with a birdie (net eagle) on number one. Then (to make it look like luck) made several double and triple bogeys. He also picked up a closie. 30 Pts.

Hector couldn't get anything going but managed to stick one close on fourteen. 6 Pts.

Jared played well, but not on the right holes. He walked away with nothing.

Cody was solid all day. It's amazing he picked up only one skin. 24 Pts.

Andy hit every par 3 green, but had a few closies stripped away - he held on to two. He was sweating all the way to the end where he finally picked up a skin on eighteen. 36 Pts.

Mike, referred to as the grandfather of the group, displayed patience and wisdom and struck at the right times to come away with two skins and two closies. 60 Pts.

Looks like Mr. Wesner has the makings of a GREAT webmaster/secretary for next year, huh???

The Club Championships this year was less than perfect by far, however for the most part, it was alot of fun ( thank you all for showing up and playing).
We had a break after 18 holes of play and ate pizza the club provided, and drank sodas, JJ provided..... We posted the 18 holes scores on the big board then set out for our last 9 holes of play. It was a long day, gruelling at times with some tough pin locations set by Eddie, who was to scared to putt to his own pins. I want to state some things publicly so maybe we need to think about these things and act accordingly.
First we are a small club, with no clout, given a great rate by our golf course to play on.
The bottom line for a business is to make a customer happy and make some $. Our play on Sunday at a discount rate is something that the golf course could very easily do without.
We need to remember this when we are conducting ourselves on the golf course.( we can be easily replaced by full priced paying customers!)
I want to say "Thank you" to Don Matutina for allowing us the good rate, and 27 holes Tourn. game. Which means he has to tell other customers why they can't get a tee time and he has to deal with people who are behind our slow BUTTS! (possibly complaining too).
We all need to stop and think for a moment at times and realize everything does not revolve around us..! I heard Straight out yells of F bombs....during play on the golf course, cussing around kids and other golfers at the course. Complaints about when we tee off, complaints about who we are paired with, complaints about when we eat, complaints about course conditions, complaints about how long it took , complaints about when we finished, complaints about sandbagging SOB's.......the list goes on and on... Maybe we should just be happy we are able to play the game... and can afford it, and are healthy enough, and living in a place nice enough, in a country free enough. Let's stop acting like spoiled little babies and go out have some fun, compete with dignity... Thank your clubs GM, Thank your clubs officers for putting in the time and effort all year, Thank your lucky stars your not somewhere else , hungry, cold, and without...Thank you for listening, SRGC President.

2008 Champion of Champions Pub Links Tournament

Deadline: October 10, 2008, 5 pm.

Saticoy Golf Club will be playing our club championship prior to this. The flights given to us by the PLGA for their tournament are: 4.4 and lower - Championship flight; 4.5 - 8.4 - A flight; 8.5 - 12.4 - B flight; 12.5 - 17.4 - C flight; 17.5 - 26.4 - D flight. Our club doesn't have anyone in the E flight.

Allotment for Club Championship was $300, so since we have 5 flights, we will pay each flight's winner $60. (which is 1/2 of the entry fee for the COC). Due to the fact that the PLGA got thier information on the COC out late, we have little time to have our club championship. We may play consecutive Sundays or Saturday and Sunday.

Saticoy Golf Club Upcoming Stuff !

Up coming stuff to think about and do.
First we have a 2 man shamble event Sat. 20th of Sept.
In October we have the club Campionships, 2 days 18 holes at Saticoy and 18 holes ?, get your Ideas in now, about where you want to play... The club will be sponsoring the event so all you have to pay for is the green fees both days. It will be 3 flights. 0-7, 8-15 , 16+. (3 winners 100$).
Also on the horizon is membership renewal, November, or the end of November-ish is the deadline for membership renewal, so you won't be dropped by the club, or the PLGA.... Last year we had some people got dropped (I got the brunt of their anger for merely inheriting the position of new member chair) and I want to give some advance notice...
*There still are a few people who owe a small bit of $ for the match play which I have the list for
please pay or you will be inelligible for the Club Championships...
Lastly, We need volunteers for club officers next year, Think about volunteering so you can

Jim Jones is our 2nd Trimester Points Champion!!!

He has taken out the competition by a nearly 100 point margin. Hector Betancourt somehow managed not to even finish in the top 6... which was a surprise to everyone who knows how much he DOMINATED the first part of the year.

Chris Harman came in at T18 with NO points... there were quite a few people on the T18 list, so I decided to leave that part blank.

The club wants to congratulate our president for the win and hope he uses his gift card wisely.

3-Man Saticoy Scramble Results!!!

What a turnout we had today. With only a few complaints by "The English Twit" about the winning team's "player stacking"/handicap snafu-ers... the event was a smashing success.

We had mild weather in the early holes and it heated up as the day went on. Sunshine and a couple of near car hits from #8 tee box made for some excitement. Some ladies joined us on the course today, some were playing the Scramble and we had at least two spectators for a rather measly mobile gallery.

Some confusion about how to PLAYOFF for second place wound up biting the Harman/Miller team in the ass... but there are no hard feelings there.

I could regale you with the tales of chip-in eagles (there were at least 2) and we can all bask in the awe of Cody Stewart's -43 final score of 44 after playing 54 holes... but everyone who was at the course has already heard EVERY good shot OVER AND OVER again... so let's just move on already!

River Ridge Victoria Lakes Grand Opening

Tomorrow, August 22nd, FRIDAY:::

The new and improved and mostly old, but newly redesigned and oldly rearranged Victoria Lakes 18 holes will be open for regular play. There are either 3 or 4 completely new holes, and 5-6 re-designed and/or lengthened holes. 8 of the original Victoria Lakes 9 holes are unchanged, and all the holes feature the same grasses throughout. That means the the Vineyard course uses different grass on the greens than does the Victoria Lakes course.

The club will buy sleeve "o" balls for the winners again!!! If 2 or more teams are in a tie for 1st at the end of regulation we will have a (team) putt off.....
Rules of play: 1 club length (no closer). No 4- man teams (you can have a 2 person team as long
the 2 handicaps combined are 16.0 and up)(no extra shots). No 3-man teams can have 2 players under 8.0 handicap, and the combined total of (3 players) is no less than 26.0
*Sign up sheet will be posted at Saticoy Regional info board.
COST: To ride $47 , To walk $35 *what that includes is: Cost of golf (R=27$)
(W=15$) 6$ for closies , 4$ club fees, 10$ tourney fees. Start building your team and we will see you there.

The date for Saticoy's next Tournament is Aug. 17th let's start thinking about it early come up with a place and game...Any idea's people...we are coming off a fun time this past Sunday.
I see some reason's we had a good turn out. ( you could pick your own team, payout was good,green fee's were reasonable, 126 club came and helped with turn out).
If we do something similiar we might have another good turn out....
Course selection if you want to keep it inexpensive might be Saticoy again or Vista Valencia (it might be HOT there ) maybe the Seabee base that would be cooler....

The third Sunday of the month. Well, well well...

I was only gone for 6.8 days... and I was very surprised to read 29 comments starting benign, and becoming more and more heated. I'm confused as to how it all came about, but I'm honestly ashamed to be a part of these organizations.

Whatever the precipitating incident was, whomever posted what comment under who's name attacking whichever guy doesn't matter to me right now. I just don't want to read any more of it. Once again, Daddy's back... and I am putting an end to the tomfoolery that took place while I was away (WITHOUT INTERNET ACCESS)!!!

So, first things first... I need results from the 6/29 MO' MONEY Tournament.

Next, we need to put together a schedule for the next 2-4 months. Club meeting, Board meeting, whatever we need to do. My availability is going up in the next couple weeks.

Hopefully everyone is cooling their heels right now, and we can at least be civilized for the time being. That is all.

Saturday Event, June 14th... US OPEN?!?

The Saticoy Golf U.S. Open is coming this weekend.

On Saturday, June 14th... the U.S. Open Pro-Am will be played. This event is open to everyone, not just club members. It is being sponsored by Don Matutina at Saticoy Regional Golf Course.

Check-in time: 11:30 AM
First tee time: 12:00 PM

$35 cost includes:

18 holes of golf
Cart
Tournament fee
Lunch on the BBQ

The particulars are these... you basically shoot your own score, and total your NET over/under with a randomly selected US Open player's over/under. Should be fun, since there will be a good turnout. There will also be a raffle for a sleeve of balls (3 prizes).

This is an incredible deal for the money. Let's get out there and win some dough! This event will count toward UPS points, and now we've got to take down Larry Travis.

Hope to see a bunch of SGC guys there... I can't play AGAIN, but I hope you have a lot of fun. Keep me posted on the madness, will ya???

The match play Championship will conclude this week with either Mike Wesner or Larry Travis as our Champion......Jim Jones and Cody Stewart will play off for 3d place.
There will be a cap of 10$ for dues you must pay if you played in 5 matches or more, otherwise 2$ per match. NOTE - We will be keeping track if you have unpaid dues you will not be able to play in Club Championship in the fall....So make sure you get your payment in and someone verifies it as well.....Hector, Jimmy,Chris or Scott, can collect and turn the $ into Mr. Ullegue.

Golf History FAQ: Why Do Golfers Yell "Fore" for Errant Shots?

"Fore" is another word for "ahead" (think of a ship's fore and aft). Yelling "fore" is simply a shorter way to yell "watch out ahead" (or "watch out before"). It allows golfers to be forewarned, in other words.

The British Golf Museum cites an 1881 reference to "fore" in a golf book, establishing that the term was already in use at that early date (the USGA suggests the term may have been in use as early as the 1700s). The museum also surmises that the term evolved from "forecaddie."

A forecaddie is a person who accompanies a group around the golf course, often going forward to be in a position to pinpoint the locations of the groups' shots. If a member of the group hit an errant shot, the thinking goes, they may have alerted the forecaddie by yelling out the term.

It was eventually shorted to just "fore."

A popular theory is that the term has a military origin. In warfare of the 17th and 18th century (a time period when golf was really taking hold in Britain), infantry advanced in formation while artillery batteries fired from behind, over their heads. An artilleryman about to fire would yell "beware before," alerting nearby infantrymen to drop to the ground to avoid the shells screaming overhead.

So when golfers misfired and send their missiles - golf balls - screaming off target, "beware before" became shortened to "fore."

Both the Points List and Match Play sidebars have been updated with all information I have received up to this point. Any matches that may have been played after noon today are not accounted for in the aforementioned update.

Don't forget about this Saturday's shindig(s)... I haven't spoken to the President or V.P. about the scheduling conflict (caused by Don Matutina... not SRGClub)... so I don't know where our priorities are... perhaps we can combine the events somehow???

Our club tournament for June has been changed to Saturday, June 14th, instead of its original date of Sunday, June 15. (June 15th is fathers day)
We will be playing at Saticoy Regional, 12 noon, 18 hole PRO -AM. Game is as follows:
The PGA U.S. Open is being played that very weekend, by Saturday We will match the # of PGA pro's in the top of the field, To the # of players signed up in the Tournament with a blind draw, you and your handicap and the PGA pro's round combined.(2 man team) your net score for 18 holes + the PGA pro's score for that Saturday's U.S. Open round. I.E.- you shoot net 2 over and your PGA Pro Draw is Tiger Woods and he shoots 2under your team score is even par. Anyone can play, as long as they have a handicap. BBQ lunch , CART , GOLF, and TOURNAMENT all for 35$. Our Club, Club 126 is being invited and anyone else (with a handicap is being invited ........................................................................................................................

The course was immaculate, and the weather was good. Lots of fun had by all competitors, except maybe Hector, who was planning to use his winnings from today to buy a second home...

Brad Sillasen won with a net even (61) He picked up his ball twice for a 2 stroke penalty (twice! 4 strokes) and still won! He did play well though he was playing bogey golf for many holes....11 par threes can't get in alot of trouble....but he never hit out of bounds and never in the water either.....Jaymond Li took 2nd place with a net (63)
Hector and Jim played poorly.....Andy Bennett shot the low round (gross 70) and had nothing to show for it... except for his beaming pride. That's gotta hurt, Andy.

Shot of the day: Ken Baum missed a hole in one by 2 inches on the Island green rolled past to 30" from the hole kick in birdie

I know what some of you are saying... what about my momentous prediction about my win over Cody Stewart... that is another story. It was a clash of the titans to say the least... birdies everywhere.... which made it hard to concentrate on the golf... one of those bastards flew into view on my backswing! In the end, AS through 8 holes, Cody holed out a 6-ft downhill par putt after I had missed mine.

Great match, and all planned out in advance. We in the "loser" bracket wanted to kick some ass as Goliaths take on Goliaths. It will be just like UFC... but for golf, and nobody gets hurt, and much tamer, and not televised.

BTW - in case you're homosexual like me, UFC stands for Ultimate Fighting Challenge, where big idiots kick the hell out of each other in rusty cages and stuff.

The purpose of this website is to talk about club events. We post weekend winners and notify of upcoming games. Occasional jokes and discussions are posted, which are tolerated... or encouraged, if they are in a good-natured, positive light.

WASN'T getting... so I crunched some #'s let me know if this sounds fair.?
If we divide the players index by 3, (this seems a fair resolve to both sides)...
For ex: Rick Chaidez :VS: Pete Ballestero.....RC=20.7 /3 =6.9
PB=6.6/3=2.2 (4.7 differential ) Ricky would get a stroke on the 4 hardest holes of the golf course and .7 on the fifth hardest ( if Pete were to win that hole by a stroke he would then win that hole, if they tied with pars on that fifth hole Ricky would then win that hole.)
Does this seem more fair???? Let me know, ....JJ

1-Man Scramble: Sunday, 3/30

Due to popular vote...

This is the game for Sunday, March 30th.

9-hole, 1-man scramble + skins
This game is played EXACTLY like the Wednesday Night Scramble, except you have no teammates. 2 tee shots, 2 approaches, 2 chances for birdie/par/triple... etc.

Check-in time: 7:30 AM
Tee Time: 8:00 AM

Cost: $30 for game + Green Fees
$30 Breakdown:
--$15 Scramble Tournament
--$6 Skins
--$3 Closies
--$3 Long Drive
--$3 Club Fee

Green Fes:
$11 to walk for SGC MEMBERS
$19 to ride for SGC MEMBERS

$14 to walk for NON-MEMBERS
$22 to ride for NON-MEMBERS

Therefore, a non-member who wants to take a cart would pay the most, $52.
For an SGC member walking it would only be $41.

The game will be a tournament, with 1/3 handicap for the scramble, 1/4 handicap for skins. Closest to the pin and long drive contest will only be applicable for your FIRST shot in this scramble format.

Da Rulez- (in a for instance manner)
The player will play two balls from the tee on #1. The player, we'll call him Frank, then selects the better of those two shots, and plays two approach shots from this position and selects the better shot, which in my example is on the green. Now Frank will putt two balls from this better shot position. If he holes out on the first putt, the second putt is unnecessary.

The other difference here will be that it is a tournament... which means that there will be no arbitrary gimmes. The gimme length will be a standard putter GRIP length, which is less than 1 foot. Otherwise, a putt isn't "good" until it hits the bottom of the cup.

This format continues for all nine holes with 2 exceptions/things to think about.

1. Closest to the pin: #5, #6, #8

Only the 1st tee shot can count as closest to the pin. This is important for two reasons. The first reason is that you can't try to just hit the green somewhere and then try to go flag hunting. The second (more important) reason, is if you hit a first shot 15 feet from the pin and the second shot 2 feet from the pin... if you want the closie, you've got to putt from 15 feet. If you select that second shot (for an easy birdie), then you forfeit the right to that closie (the 15 foot shot).

2. Long Drive: #4

The long drive hole will be #4 since it's the straightest and most wide open shot. Since it's nearly impossible to determine where the fairway ends and the rough begins, the boundaries for the long drive will be the trees on the left and the out of bounds fence on the right. ANYWHERE in between is fair game for the long drive... which will help if #4 is into the wind and we're swinging at the golf ball like a monkey having a seizure!!!
The long drive, similar to the par 3 contests, will count only for your FIRST tee shot. If you hit your second ball a little farther, but think you can win the long drive with your initial tee shot, you MUST play the first ball.

We will be paying out to 1st and 2nd place in the tourney... maybe even 3rd if we get enough players!

A rule sheet and official tournament rules sheet will be distributed to all players on the day of the event. This should be a lot of fun!!!

Non-members are encouraged to attend, everyone invited will need a verifiable handicap if they expect to get their strokes... or they must play as scratch. We want to invite extra people to try to grow our membership and it's always more fun when we have a big group out there... more money for HECTOR.

SGC SCRAMBLE Results, 3/22

The results of today's Scrambled Eggs Contest will follow shortly.

It was a blustery, windy, crazy-hot afternoon for a friendly Saturday afternoon club golf game. The Santa Ana's made todays golf more of an adventure than any golfer would want to endure... as a result, (by popular vote) the 18 holes were chopped in half. Most of us were confused because the Tiny Warrior never appeared... or maybe he WAS there and I just couldn't see him.

Notables:::

A near-miss, or rather a near-hit, in the parking lot had Harman's panties in a twist...
Cody Stewarts team made the most birdies AND the most bogeys...
Robert hit a drive on #3 that ended up 100 yards out... was witnessed complaining, "I hit it good, but it didn't go anywhere!!!"...
Hector went to the beach for a refill -- the Coast Guard told him: NO MORE SAND!!!...
No Steady Eddie Cantano today, need I say more?...
Jim Jones came unzipped and nearly lost his pants over a faux pas by the secretary on hole #2...
A 3-way-tie means that ALMOST everybody won... and Harman's team finished top 5... which is always respectable!...

We attempted to lure a few non-members into our midst to have more fun and possibly add some new members. They're the ones who brought in that horrible wind, by the way... and we hope they had enough fun to come see us again the next time we have a non-member-sanctioned event. A 3 man scramble 18 hole just like we do on Wed night anyone can come, invite your buds from the 126, Buena,and Sta. Holy GREAT WEATHER, Batman!!!

Anybody and everybody that stayed away because of yesterday's rainclouds... or shifty weather reports had another damned thing coming today. Sunny, 67 degrees... almost ALMOST no wind.

Lots of crappy scores posted today... I had a quad or more and at least one 10 showed up on somebody's scorecard. The course played pretty tough, but I think we could have done better as a group.

Congratulations to the CO-Champions, Larry Travis and Hector Betancourt. BIG SURPRISE, RIGHT???? HECTOR WON MONEY!!!!!

Must be tough walking around with all that... I won't say it... it was a fair tourney.

Immediately following the March 8th scramble, there will be a Member Clinic from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Mr. John Milleville will host 2 separate ½ hour lessons on the driving range and Mr. Manuel Quezada will be giving 2 separate ½ hour short game lessons on the chipping green.

The clinic will work as such: Members will spend the first thirty minutes either on the range or at the chipping green. At 12 PM, everyone will switch stations for the cheapest golf lessons around!

Members will be able to attend both for $5.00. This price INCLUDES range balls.

- Bring a friend, and if he/she joins the club, he can attend the lesson package for free. (Otherwise Non-Member fee is $15.00)

Today was a fun day... a bit too hot for the webmaster to stand... but we had some good giggles.

Of course, there was some confusion by the President about how the game was going to work... or perhaps I just didn't write what he wanted me to write... but all members are invited to check the post where I detailed the Shamble (as I understood it) which was posted 6 days ago... not even Mr. Webmaster can fake the date on a post.

9-Hole Shamble, 4-man best ball

The shamble is a game where each player from the team tees off on each hole. Once the team selects the "best" tee shot, each player holes out their own ball from that position, and the lowest score for the team is recorded. This is a really fun game and we should see a bunch of 2,3,4 or maybe even 6 under scores!!!

There is no handicap required, no club membership required. Bring a bunch of friends so they can see how much fun being a member of SGC can be!!!

Check-in time: 7:30 AM
First tee time: 8:00 AM

Cost to walk: $22
Cost to ride: $30
Cost includes green fees, club fees and (if applicable) cart fee.

CLUB MEETING RESULTS

We discussed the 3 month schedule and reasoning for the current format of the schedule.
We discussed changing that format to playing two 18 hole events per month beginning sometime in April.... vote pending.
We voted to combine the two money lists to a single club points list.
We voted to award a prize every four months to the points list leader, this prize will consist of a dozen balls or gift certificate for a round of golf not to exceed $50.
The points list will be reset every four months. The first prize will be given in April.
We discussed member notification strategies and will be continuing our efforts to try to get as many people involved in our games as possible.
We discussed a mixed match play event against other clubs such as Buena Men's Club and Club 126.

Thanks to everyone who attended, and we hope to see even more of you THIS SATURDAY at Saticoy Regional... (9/18 hole skins is scheduled).
